In 2012, one of the most talked-about rumors was unquestionably one the possibility of the 2015 Mustang ending up with a four-cylinder engine under the hood . We learned today that the rumor is indeed true… for the European market.

Citing anonymous sources, Edmunds said in an article published on March 6th that the European Mustang would benefit from a turbocharged 2.3-litre mill producing 300 horsepower based on the Focus ST’s 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine. Fortunately, the purists will have still opportunity to buy a V8.

The main reason why this engine would be offered is to give consumers an alternative to the good old V8, which will be heavily taxed in Europe due to strict environmental laws.
