Rumors of a four cylinder engine in the Camaro are quite old, but they are now back in full force!

GM Authority says that the next generation of the popular muscle could abandon its classic V8 for a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The arrival of the Camaro’s engine would coincide with a complete facelift in which the car would abandon its current Zeta platform to use the Cadillac ATS’ Alpha platform.

The website does not name its sources, which could put a little shade on this rumor. However, two elements come into play and give some weight to it. The U.S. and Canadian governments have adopted more stringent fuel economy ratings, while the Ford Mustang, the Camaro’s eternal rival, should be revamped for the 2015 model year with a new platform, a new modern design and… no V8.

Are we slowly witnessing the end of the muscle car era?
