Small SUVs are definitely popular among car manufacturers these days. Following in the footsteps of GM with ChevroletTrax / Buick Encore, Nissan with its Juke and those of Honda – set unveil an urban compact SUV concept at the Detroit Auto Show in January – Mazda is reportedly planning to launch the CX-3.

According to Auto Express, the CX-3 will be based on the next-generation Mazda2, will be launched in 2014 and will integrate Mazda’s SkyActiv technology to become the most fuel efficient in its class.

Rumor has it that a 1.3-litre turbo engine will be found under the hood. A 1.6-litre diesel mill is also in the plans of the Japanese manufacturer. It is believed that the Mazda CX-3 will not available with all-wheel drive as consumers mostly choose FWD models for such vehicles.
