A Jeep executive reportedly told Wards Auto that a diesel-powered Grand Cherokee will be unveiled in January at the Detroit Auto Show in Detroit and will arrive in dealerships in the first quarter of 2013.

The Grand Cherokee diesel would use a 3.0-litre V6, which is exactly the same engine offered in European models. The latetr develops 224 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. According to various rumors, there’s a good chance that the model wil carry the Ecodiesel name, since Chrysler has trademarked it earlier this year.
