Toyota boss Bill Fay confesses in an interview with Automotive News that “If we don’t have the Matrix, it won’t be the end of the world,” suggesting that the Corolla-based hatchback could disappear from the U.S. market.

Knowing that the Matrix is not very popular in the United States, his comment really ain’t no surprise to observers of the automotive world. It is, however, a completely different story in Canada, where the compact is highly popularity and enjoys a solid reputation.

Then, will the Matrix does survive in Canada? Fay says it will continue to be sold in maple leaf country. This is good news, but some questions remain unanswered. For example, will it benefit from a facelift at the same time as the Corolla next year?

Stay tuned for updates!
