According to a rumor published by Automobile Magazine, BMW is plan to introduce a sports car to compete with Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, Audi R8, Lexus LFA and others for 2016.

The car seen by many as the successor to the legendary M1 would be called M8 use a V8 engine producing more than 600 horsepower, and would be sharing its underpinnings with the lightweight i8 (set to be launched two years earlier if all goes according to plan).
